Dengue cases rising rapidly in Delhi

As many as 420 cases of dengue have been detected here since the outbreak of the disease early this month.

NEW DELHI: Dengue cases are rising rapidly in the national capital this season with 30 fresh cases being reported today which puts the total number of patients reported so far to 420.

While 29 fresh cases today were reported from three Municipal Corporations areas, one was reported from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation area.

According to data available, 420 cases of dengue have been detected here since the outbreak of the disease early this month.

South Delhi Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of cases at 167, while 164 cases were detected from the North Delhi Municipal Corporation area. 75 cases have so far been reported from East Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Other cases were reported from NDMC and Delhi cantonment area.

Out of the 420 cases, five cases have been reported from outside Delhi. A nine-year-old girl died due to dengue last month.

Last year, the national capital had seen 216 cases of dengue, including eight from outside, and three deaths. In 2010, there were 4,108 cases, including 24 from outside, and five deaths while the figures for 2009 were 29 dengue cases and no death.

In 2008, there were 550 dengue cases and two deaths.
