Man forges brother’s signature, grabs gold

NEW DELHI: A Mehrauli businessman was in for shock when all his gold stored with a leading finance company vanished and his account was shut. The company officials told him that he had himself closed the account and taken the gold. However, when CCTV footages were analysed, it was found that the businessman's brother had allegedly forged his signatures, opened another account and transferred the gold, a police officer said.

The incident came to light on January 11, when the complainant went to the finance firm's office to check the status of his account. According to his complaint, he was told that the account had been closed by him on September 22 last year.

The complainant said he was taken aback as he had not come to the office that day. Investigations revealed that a man had come with the related documents and asked for the account to be shut after which the company initiated the process and handed him over the gold.

The shocked complainant asked for the CCTV footages from which he identified the man as his brother. He reported the matter to the police and alleged the connivance of the company staff as well who did not check for the identity proof.

The police have registered a case of cheating and breach of trust under section 406 and 420 of IPC and are investigating the matter.
