Gangster caught in shootout

NEW DELHI: The alleged right-hand of gangster Sandeep Chitania was arrested on Thursday after a shootout, police said . Satender alias Kala (29)hasbeen involvedin two cases of honour killings , including one of his cousin sister , along with several cases of murder , extortion and robberies . There was a reward of Rs 1 lakh on Kala's arrest .

According to special CP S N Shrivastava , the accused had joined hands with Chitania and another gangster , Nitu Dabodia , after they had escaped from police custody last year . Kala had been committing crime for them and helped them remain elusive .

"On February 7, a tip-off was received that Kala would be meeting one of his associates at a temple in Shahbad Dairy area of outer district . Atrap waslaid and an Accent car was flagged down . Satender was behind the steering and he was asked to surrender . But he whipped out a pistol and fired at the team . The cops ducked and saved themselves ," Shrivastava said .

The team soon overpowered him , snatched his pistol and dragged him out of the car , DCP special cell, Sanjeev Yadav said . Satender took to crime when he was a II year student at Hindu College , Sonipat . He committed his first murder in 2001 and remained in jail for four years .
