This concept of cycle rally was initiated by Jung in 2009 and this one is the third in the row carrying forward important social messages to the world, especially those which concern the masses.
This year, the rally is being organised by NSS and NCC wings of Jamia in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, New Delhi and Department of Youth Services and Sports, Government of Himachal Pradesh.
The cycle rally will be flagged off by chief minister of Himachal Pradesh, Virbhadra Singh from Shimla on February 20, 2013 and is expected to reach Delhi on February 27, 2013 at 2.00 pm. The rally is being led by Major N U Khan, NCC Officer and professor of HRM, department of social work, Jamia. Rihan Khan Suri, training and placement officer, jamia will also accompany the rally.
The students shall pass through several historical, cultural and religious landmarks and will visit local villages and interact with local university students on their journey towards Delhi. Starting from Narkanda on to Shimla, Solan, Chandigarh, Sirhind, Ambala and Panipat, the rally shall reach Delhi after covering 452 kms on February 27, 2013.
Since the students are expected to cover an average of over 60-70 kms every very day in the course of this rally, the rally has been accompanied by 13 staff members which consist of members of the University administration, back-up vehicles, spare cycles, a medical team of a doctor and nurse provided by the university.
The objectives of the rally are to generate an awareness about the preservation of our environment, provide an opportunity to our students to understand the flora and fauna of the different regions of India, expose the students to various challenges and thus develop the skills to overcome difficult situation in life and to develop their character and personality and to foster peace and national integration among youth of the country.
Earlier the university had organised cycle rallies on "Peace and Universal Brotherhood" from Indo-Pak Border (Wagah) to Delhi and Aman Carvan cycle rally "Dilon Ko Jodo" to spread the message of peace and pluralism from Pushkar, Rajasthan via Ajmer to Delhi.
