NEW DELHI: On Thursday, Delhi University saw the opening of the first cafeteria that will operated by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The multi-cuisine cafe, inaugurated by DU vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh, is located close to the Central Library.

An MoU between the university and IRCTC has been signed. Singh had announced this collaboration with the railways at his meeting with students in July, 2012.

The cafe will seat 120 at a time and has two kiosks to serve students and staff and will even open early to serve breakfast to students coming to campus from far-flung areas. About 700 students got a complimentary meal from IRCTC on the opening day.

"The cafeteria will dispense healthy, hygienic and economic meals keeping in view the requirement of students from all strata of society. Meals will be prepared conforming to the best industry practices," says a statement released by the university.

A feedback mechanism is also in place.
