NEW DELHI: An isolated and shunned group, the transgender community, got a mention in Delhi government's budget. In a move to provide support to them, Rs 1,000 per month for those living in the capital for at least three years has been earmarked. A plan is afoot to bring eligible individuals under cover of Annshree Yojana.
But many among the transgender community are skeptical. "Those like us find it very difficult to show identity proof. Firstly, most of us aren't living with our families. Many are migrants. Secondly, many don't have ration cards, voter ID and Aadhaar cards," said Lakshmi, 'guru' of a eunuch group in Jahangirpuri.
