The child has been placed in a child care home by the Child Welfare Committee, Lajpat Nagar till further orders in the matter. According to the complaint, recorded as part of the CWC order, the physical assault came to light when the boy came crying to a care centre run by NGO Childhood Enhancement Through Training and Action (CHETNA) near Nizamuddin railway station. Nitin was a regular to the NGO and actively participated in dance, drama and music activities. He would only leave the centre to collect waste.
According to volunteers from CHETNA, when he came to the centre on Tuesday, the child's legs, arms and back bore deep red marks and he was inconsolable. The complaint said that he was crossing the station's foot over bridge to drink water on the others side when a man, who the child alleged was from the RPF, caught him and thrashed him with a belt. CHETNA counselor Khan Hasina Ahmed told TOI that the boy said the man who beat him up was calling him a thief repeatedly and beat him up for no fault. CHETNA volunteers tried registering a case but were turned away. The CWC then directed that a medico-legal examination be carried out.The matter will come up for hearing on Friday.
While senior divisional security commissioner, RPF, (Delhi) SR Mishra was not reachable on phone, CHETNA director Sanjay Gupta said that action must be taken against those responsible. "The child says that he will be able to recognize the man who beat him. The the authorities must find out and take action agauinst the RPF personnel," Gupta said.
