NEW DELHI: Swami Pratibhanand, the key accused in the murder of BSP leader Deepak Bhardwaj, has been traced to Indonesia's capital Jakarta, sources said.

Once the police know his exact location in the country, they will push for a red corner notice against him, which requires the law enforcement agency to have evidence of the suspect's presence in that country.

The godman, who has been declared a proclaimed offender in the case, was traced after police overheard a conversation between the accused and his friend in Jakarta through a phone link-up. "We believe that his last location in India was Madhya Pradesh. From there he fled to Nepal and subsequently to Indonesia. Since there is no evidence of him possessing a passport in India we believe he used a fake passport to flee to Indonesia," the source added.

The police, however, did not confirm this and said that details of the investigation could not be revealed. However, while submitting the chargesheet police told a court that they had evidence of the accused staying in a southeast Asian country.

The 48-year-old godman, a resident of Beed district in Maharashtra, has fled to at least seven cities in different states since the police deciphered his role in Bhardwaj's murder. He is also said to have changed his appearance to evade the police.
