NEW DELHI: Two Grameen Seva drivers have been arrested for allegedly murdering a man, Kuldeep, who was extorting money from them in Ranhaula in west Delhi. The accused have been identified as Arif (28) and his nephew Sher Khan (19).

On June 29, Kuldeep, a resident of Mohan Garden met his friends Vicky and Noor Mohammad at a meat shop in Ranhaula around 11.30pm, said police. After some time, Arif came there and called out to Kuldeep from across the road. When Kuldeep went to see him, Arif and his aides - Sher Khan and Shahrukh - ganged up and thrashed Kuldeep before shooting him. They then ran away from the spot. A murder case was registered at Ranhaula police station.

"On July 14, information was received that Arif and Khan would come to Sarai Kale Khan bus stand," said DCP (special cell), Sanjeev Yadav. A trap was laid and the duo was arrested by a team led by inspector L M Negi and Hirdaya Bhushan.

"The accused disclosed that they were running Grameen Seva vehicle in Uttam Nagar and Kuldeep was extorting money from them for allowing them to run the vehicle. Fed up with his excesses, they, along with another driver Shahrukh, hatched a plan to murder Kuldeep using a countrymade pistol," said Yadav.
