In the first incident, a 13-year-old boy was strangulated and then dumped in a canal in Ranhaula, west Delhi. A case of murder was registered after the postmortem report indicated that the teenager, identified as Devendra, was strangulated.
The residents of Vikas Nagar, Chand Vihar and Hastashal staged a protest in the area on Saturday, saying the cops were not taking the murder seriously. By evening, police sources confirmed that some minors from the area were under the scanner. "We cannot detain a minor for questioning as per the law. We have asked the people to be patient,'' said an investigating officer. Additional CP (west) V Renganathan said that Devendra had left his house around noon and had since been untraceable. "Locals spotted his body and informed us. There were external injuries on the body,'' said Renganathan.
In another case, a man was was found murdered at Narela in outer Delhi. Four minors, along with a major identified as Vishu, killed Pradip Khatri (25) on Saturday morning. The accused had asked Khatri to come to the field. There, they had an argument and the accused attacked Khatri with knives. While police managed to apprehend two minors for the attack, two others are still at large. Police said that Khatri had mocked a friend's sister recently and the accused wanted revenge. A case of murder has been registered.
