It was alleged that a budget of Rs 42.68 crore was approved by the Centre under the NRHM scheme for operating mobile medical units in various districts in UP. However, according to CBI officials, the accused government officials connived with the private companies by bending rules, and thus currying favour for themselves and the private firms.
CBI has mentioned that there was a loss of Rs 8.16 crore to the exchequer in the contract. Those named as accused in the chargesheet include Shukla, Ram, Jagran Solutions, Jain Video - through its directors, Jain Video Vice President, Atul Prakash Nigam, and Gobind Prakash Pandey, the government business head of Jagran Solutions.
CBI had questioned the representatives of the private firm and Shukla at CBI headquarters. The chargesheet, officials say, has been filed in the Ghaziabad court.
Shukla has been named as an accused in few other cases in the NRHM scam since he was found to be a key player in the alleged irregularities. The development comes at a time when the CBI is preparing to accelerate its probe in the NRHM scam. The agency is presently probing several Preliminary Enquiries and Regular Cases in the scam in various contracts implemented in UP under the scheme.
