NEW DELHI: It was a sunny morning in the national capital Wednesday, a day after a torrential downpour saw tens of thousands of commuters stranded and many areas flooded. The Met office has forecast light rains in some parts of the city.

"The sky will remain partly cloudy with light rains in some parts of the city later in the day," an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the Met office, the capital received 95.2 millimetres of rain from 8.30 a.m. Tuesday to 8.30 a.m. Wednesday.

The minimum temperature Wednesday settled a notch below average at 24.8 degrees Celsius while humidity remained high at 95 percent at 8.30 a.m.

"The maximum temperature is likely to hover around the 34 degrees Celsius mark," the IMD official said.

Since the arrival of the monsoon, the capital has received 745.2 mm of rainfall, 61 percent above average.

Tuesday's maximum temperature was recorded at 33.5 degrees Celsius, average for this time of year, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 23.7 degrees Celsius, a notch below average.
