Humidity remains high despite afternoon rain

NEW DELHI: Light to moderate showers were reported from parts of the city on Monday afternoon though the brief showers did little to bring relief from the persistently high humidity levels being witnessed since the past several days.

The Safdarjung observatory recorded 8.1mm rain though Ayanagar in southwest Delhi reported the heaviest showers for the day with 20.9mm rain.

"A low pressure area that developed over westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbouring areas now lies over Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. In association with that, an upper air cyclonic circulation extending upto the midtropospheric levels has also developed," said a Met official.

Rain and thundershowers may occur at many places over the western Himalayan region, UP, east Rajasthan and Haryana till the end of the week. The Met department has predicted rain and thundershowers at many places over J&K, HP and Uttarakhand till Thursday morning. Rain and thundershowers may also occur at a few places over Punjab, Haryana and east Rajasthan till Tuesday and then increase.
