Man jailed for repeatedly raping minor

NEW DELHI: A father of two has been sentenced to life term for repeatedly raping a 15-year-old, whom he used to ferry to school, by a Delhi court which said he acted like a "beast" and his horrendous crime that left the girl pregnant was "deliberate and well-thought of".

The court noted that despite being the father of an eight-year-old girl, the convict made the victim a "prey of his sexual lust" and continued to assault her daily for around 25 days, as a result of which she became pregnant and had to undergo an abortion.

The court awarded life imprisonment to convict Pappu Singh, resident of Goyla Dairy near Dwarka, and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.

"The crime committed by the convict is intensely grave and serious in nature. He acted like a beast and has committed the crime in most horrendous manner. Rape is the most hated crime in the society ... Considering all the facts and circumstances, I am of the opinion that no sentence of imprisonment less than life imprisonment would satisfy the ends of justice in this case," additional sessions judge Virender Bhat said.

The court said Singh had not committed the crime in the state of instant passion but his acts were "well-deliberated upon and well thought of".

According to the prosecution, a complaint was lodged with the police by the family of the minor in August 2012, alleging that she was repeatedly raped by Singh who used to drop her and other children to the school in his tempo.

The girl, who was studying in Class VII, said that in April 2012, one day when she reached the house of the accused from where she used to board the tempo, Singh took her to courtyard and raped her.

When the victim tried to raise an alarm, he threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone. Thereafter, he raped her nearly 25 times and when her health deteriorated, doctors told her mother about her pregnancy, the police said.

It added that on repeated insistence of her mother, she disclosed the entire incident to her and an FIR was registered at Police Station Chhawla here against the accused.
