The festival, to be held at Sri Ram Centre in the capital, will stage the classic play depicting the travails of a middle class urban family and their selfish motives. It is directed by Bharti Sharma.
The coming days will also witness the staging of Ram Kabhi Marta Nahin, written by Santosh Kumar Nirmal and directed by Lokendra Trivedi; Mare Gaye Gulfam, (last year's award-winning play) written by Sandip Lele and directed by Shyam Kumar; Kath ke Ghore, written by Gyan Singh Mann and directed by Sohaila Kapoor and Sapno ki Dehri ke Uss Paar, written by Aditi Jain and directed by Krishnakant.
The festival is presented by Delhi government's department of art, culture and languages and Sahitya Kala Parishad.
"Over the years, our quest to find fresh talent and spot original scripts has led to many discoveries and we are glad that this festival has become a benchmark for writers and playwrights. With a motive to promote theatre, the Sahitya Kala Parisahd hopes that Mohan Rakesh Samman will become a motivating factor for the vast pool of artistic talent in our country," says JP Singh, assistant secretary (drama), Sahitya Kala Parishad.
The theatre festival is a tribute to Mohan Rakesh, the great litterateur who pioneered the Nayi Kahani literary movement in Hindi language in the 1950s. Since its inception in 1982, the festival has encouraged original Hindi play writing. Noteworthy plays like Komal Gandhar, Taj Mahal Ka Tender and Court Martial were originally spotted at this festival.
The festival's chief guest is litterateur Dr Prabhakar Shrotriya.
