Boy killed in petty tiff over bicycle ride

NEW DELHI: A scuffle between two groups of juveniles over how to ride a bicycle has killed a boy in a central Delhi locality. Two boys have been apprehended and sent to a special home for children by the Juvenile Justice Board.

Himanshu (15), a student of Class IX, was returning home from tuitions with two friends in Ranjeet Nagar around 9.30pm on Monday. When Himanshu was near his house, two other boys on a bicycle grazed past him. Their cycle, police said, had just touched Himanshu but he objected and asked them to ride slowly. Soon, the argument turned into a scuffle and Himanshu and the boys came to blows. Himanshu's friends were not part of the fight, police said. Witnesses saw Himanshu being beaten up by the two boys.

Police said Himanshu suddenly fell on the road unconscious and the accused fled the spot. Himanshu's parents took him to the hospital but he was declared brought dead. There was no major external injury on Himanshu's body and he might have died due to an internal injury to a vital organ, police said.

Himanshu's father, a tailor, has demanded strict punishment for the guilty. A case of murder under IPC 302 has been registered.
