M C Misra may be next director of AIIMS

NEW DELHI: Dr M C Misra, chief of the AIIMS trauma centre, is tipped to be the next director of AIIMS. Sources said that the institute body of AIIMS that is headed by Union health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has forwarded his named to the PMO from among the five shortlisted candidates.

Four other candidates in the fray whose names were shortlisted by the search-cum-selection committee

were Dr Y K Gupta, HOD pharmacology, Dr VK Paul, HOD paediatrics, Dr Balram Airon, head of cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery and Dr S K Acharya, HOD gastroenterology.The institute had advertised its post for the director two months ago, and 70 applications were recieved for the post from doctors based in India and abroad.

The current AIIMS' director, Dr RC Deka's tenure will end on September 30.

The PMO will declare the name of the new director after making necessary verifications, said the health ministry officials. Misra was not available for comment.
