3 suspended, 3 axed in Tihar

NEW DELHI: The Tihar Jail administration on Thursday suspended three of its employees after allegations of accepting bribe surfaced against them during a sting operation conducted by a news channel.

Services of three contract employees were also terminated, an official said. The sting shows the accused promising facilities to prisoners in lieu of money. Investigations are underway to verify the allegations.

Those suspended include a head warden, Devender Kumar, a matron identified as Kavita, and Sudesh, driver of a jail van. The persons whose contracts were terminated have been identified as Mohit, Deepak and Sushil. Tihar spokesman Sunil Gupta said, "We are looking into the matter to ascertain role of each person."
