Anuj Dayal, spokesman for Delhi Metro, said, "A team of senior officials (from Jakarta Metro) will come to %Delhi to learn operation, maintenance and security aspects. Later, a larger team will come and take training from DMRC." The idea, said Dayal, was to share information on issues like structural and operational preparedness, etc.
The 15km Metro line in Jakarta will be the first in Indonesia. About 7km of the network will be underground and it will have 13 stations. JICA ( Japan International Cooperation Agency) - which has funded the Delhi Metro - is funding the Jakarta project as well. The 144-billion yen project is expected to start from December, Dayal added.
According to the terms of the JICA loan, the Indonesian government must hire a management consultant to oversee the project. DMRC is a part of the consortium which will be giving this service. The team from Jakarta will be trained on project management, operations, maintenance and security. "The team will access our operational control centre to see how the Delhi Metro functions, as well as the maintenance setup. Intensive training will be given to them once the Metro line is constructed," added Dayal.
So far, DMRC had been involved in the construction of or worked as a consultant for Metro projects within the country. Other projects where Delhi Metro has participated include Jaipur, Kochi, Mumbai and other cities. This is the first international project in which it will play such a prominent part.
