NEW DELHI: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought a report from Delhi Police on the death of a domestic worker in BSP MP Dhananjay Singh's residence.

NCW chairperson Mamta Sharma said the report is expected in 10 days. Expressing concern at the recent incidents of torture and ill-treatment of domestic workers in Delhi homes, Sharma said, "The incidents that have come to light show that the employers are educated... but their treatment of workers is worse than illiterates. It is a mindset to treat poor people like this.'' Singh and his wife have been arrested following eye-witness accounts that the maid was beaten up. Sharma also demanded stringent punishment for the accused and hoped that the two are not released on bail.
