The victim has been identified as Kavita Advani, a resident of Sundar Nagar. Her son, Nitin (53), lives on the ground floor of the house while she lived on the first floor.
Advani's servant, who introduced himself as Islam, began working for the family three months ago. However, he has been identified by police as one Habibul, who is believed to be from Bangladesh. The family had not had him verified.
On Monday morning, Habibul barged into the house with two accomplices after Nitin left for work. He tied up Kavita and her maid, Sushma, and decamped with the loot. They also told the women to hand over the jewellery they were wearing. When the women resisted, they were thrashed by the robbers.
Neighbours informed the police and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital. A case of robbery has been registered and the police are looking for the robbers. Six teams have been formed to investigate the matter.
