NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh expressed regret on Thursday to a delegation of Christian leaders for alleged "brutal" action by Delhi Police during their march a day before to demand schedule caste rights for Dalit Christians and Muslims.

The delegation, including Archbishop of Delhi, met the PM on Thursday urging him to implement Ranganath Mishra Commission recommendations relating to religious minorities.

PMO spokesperson told TOI, "The PM expressed regret for the police action when he met the delegation."

Police had said there was a scuffle where some protesters were injured. They used water cannon to disperse the march. The Archbishop and other protesters were detained at Parliament Street police station for a few hours. "We had to detain some of them for trying to enter a protected area," said DCP (New Delhi) S B S Tyagi.
