NEW DELHI: A day after Delhi Jal Board had to curtail production in two water treatment plants due to a spike in ammonia levels in raw water, the utility said that pollution levels had started receding since Tuesday morning and water being supplied by DJB was safe and fit for drinking.

"The matter of rise in pollution due to release of untreated waste flows containing high concentration of industrial and domestic wastes into the river Yamuna from the Panipat drain was taken up strongly by DJB with the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Haryana Pollution Control Board. As a result of this, pollution in the Yamuna at the Wazirabad pond started receding since Tuesday morning. This has enabled DJB to restore normal production at both Wazirabad and Chandrawal treatment plants," said an official.
