NEW DELHI: A poacher was arrested from Badarpur bus stand on Thursday with 27 soft-shelled turtles.
The turtles were allegedly captured by poachers in Rajasthan and transported in bags to various places.
"The turtles were to be killed for meat which is consumed under the mythical belief that it has aphrodisiac properties. The carapace and the plastron of these endangered turtles is usually dried and powdered and then sold off to Bangladesh and South East Asian countries for use in traditional Chinese medicine," said the Wildlife SOS statement.
