NEW DELHI: The Union urban development ministry has sent a notice to Delhi government to return C-II/23 flat at Tilak Lane, which is the official residence of the former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. The notice has come after the completion of the 15-day grace period since Kejriwal demitted the office.

"We have not received any response from the city government. It's upto them to get the house vacated or reply to us," said a source. He added that though it's not mandatory for the ministry to extend the allotment by charging market rent, Kejriwal may be allowed to keep the house for four months. The market rent for the 3-bedroom flat is between Rs 60,000 and Rs 70,000 per month.

Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) sources said Kejriwal has already said that he would stay in the flat for next few months paying market rent since his daughter is appearing in board exams. Sources also said that the state public works department has not yet referred the UD notice to Kejriwal.

Kejriwal who resigned from the chief minister's post on February 14, ideally should have vacated the house on March 1.
