Woman kills self over 'affair'

NEW DELHI: A 22-year-old woman has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan of her room in the Mayur Vihar of east Delhi on Saturday night. She was allegedly suffering from depression after suspecting her husband of having an affair.

A suicide note written in lipstick on a photograph has been found in which the deceased, Kiran, wrote she was depressed over her husband Jitu's behaviour and suspected him of having an affair, police said. They have registered a case in this regard.

Kiran married Jitu a few years ago and has a two-year-old child. On Saturday night, her in-laws called her for dinner but found her room locked. When she did not respond to their calls, they broke open the door and found her hanging by her dupatta.

They informed the police immediately. Her body was later sent for post-mortem. Police said photographs of the suicide note have been sent for forensic and handwriting examination. A probe is on to ascertain the roles of the husband and in-laws in the matter.
