Women’s bike rally to rock Delhi

NEW DELHI: This International Women's Day, 13 cities will hear the roar of freedom. BCCL language brands—Navbharat Times, Maharashtra Times, Ei Samay, Nav Gujarat Samay and Vijay Karnataka—all sister publications of TOI, will organize All Women Bike Rally for which thousands have already signed up.

The rally was conceptualized last year in Delhi where 290 bikers participated to express their independence and intrepid spirit. This was significant in terms of it being held in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya incident. The event was then carried forward to other cities like Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai and Kolkata. It has been nominated among the top three activations by a newspaper in the worldwide INMA Marketing Awards.

This year's rally is nationwide and has Hero Pleasure as the national title sponsor. It will be held across 13 cities—Delhi, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Mumbai, Thane, Nagpur, Pune, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Ahmedabad, Nashik, Bangalore and Kolkataon March 8, International Women's Day.

Organizations of different hues have pledged their support. In Pune, the police commissioner has encouraged all women cops to turn up—a trend seen in cities like Delhi and Ghaziabad as well. Women Professors' Club in Pune, corporates like BMC Software, Rednee and Tech Mahindra, Samvedna, an NGO working for cancer patients, have motivated their employees to take part in the rally.

The national female bikers' group, Bikerni, will also turn up at key cities. In Kolkata, a group of differently-abled women have also expressed their desire to participate. In Delhi, women biker groups have ridden in cavalcades to North and South Campus to promote the event. In Ahmedabad, training camps on riding bikes saw hundreds of women turn up. In Mumbai, the dean of a dental college has also shown interest.

Radio Mirchi's female RJs are also encouraging women to join the rally.

This rally is a platform for women to announce that there is no barrier that can hold them back. So gear up and be there !
