The gang targeted people carrying cash to financial institutions. They conducted a recce of the victim's route and other details before the robbery. The accused then spent the looted money lavishly on trips to Manali, cars and girlfriends. One of them even paid his home loan worth Rs 31 lakh, police said.
Praveen (33), Vicky Vishambhar (26), Ajay (22), Deepak (22), Neeraj (21), Rehan (21) and Rakesh (33), had reportedly carried out many daylight robberies in the last 8-10 months. "In the last few months, several incidents had been reported in which armed bikers had robbed people carrying cash. The robbers worked in different groups, each group comprising 3-4 members. They stalked their target and robbed him at gunpoint. Police had been looking for this gang," DCP (Central) Alok Kumar said.
The seven were arrested last week. "During their interrogation, it was found there are at least six others in the group. The information of cash being carried by victims was usually given to the gang by Rakesh, a resident of Sitaram Bazar, Old Delhi. He gathered this information by developing sources near financial institutions," Kumar said.
