NEW DELHI: National award-winning dancer Guru Syed Salauddin Pasha was arrested on Sunday after his wife lodged a case of domestic violence, dowry and unnatural offences against him. Another case of molestation has been registered against him by a student of his wife.

Police said Pasha was arrested after they received both complaints at east Delhi's Madhu Vihar police station. Pasha used to run an NGO named, Amar Dance Centre, for differently-abled performers. In her complaint, Pasha's wife, who is herself a renowned kathak dancer, said he has been assaulting her for dowry over some time. A case under sections 377 (unnatural offence) and 506 (wrongful confinement) IPC has been registered. She also accused Pasha of trying to sexually abuse her students. Officials said they have received the complaints on Saturday morning and arrested him on Sunday. His wife said she had registered a similar complaint against him last year but had withdrawn it after he promised her in writing that he would treat her better.

In another complaint, a student of his wife has alleged that, while she was accompanying Pasha in his car to a sponsor for a programme in 2008, he had touched her inappropriately. She said that when she visited his home for classes, Pasha continued to make advances inspite of being rebuffed. She also claimed he earlier sexualy assaulted a disabled student.
