NEW DELHI: A delegation from municipal corporations met the lieutenant governor, Najeeb Jung, to discuss plans for the monsoon season. However, during their meeting, the delegation blamed public works department for not carrying out de-silting and has asked the LG to ensure it does its job.

"PWD isn't carrying out the work and all the major drains are with them. Monsoon is expected to hit Delhi by this weekend and, when we inspected some areas, we found desilting work hasn't even started in some places," said north Delhi mayor Yogender Chandolia. However, the corporation has proposed the LG entrust one agency with the de-silting work to avoid lack of coordination and passing of buck.

"To address this problem, we have constituted six teams, comprising officials from other civic agencies as well," Chandolia said. Even manholes in the city are being inspected.
