At a fashion show hosted by Tihar Jail recently, both male and female inmates of Jail No 2 and 6 (women's jail) dressed up in churidar pyjamas, kurtas, anarkali suits, and walked the ramp with confidence.
Adding to the mood of the pleasant evening was a musical performance by the members of the jail's band, Flying Souls.
The guests were also served with delicious food as the Tihar Food Court was also inaugurated by Vimlaa Mehra, DG (prisons), Tihar, in the presence of Pratibha Rani, Delhi High Court judge, and other guests. Mehra said, "We want the inmates to utilise their time in creative activities and hone their skills so that they can lead a normal life once they step out."
Rina Dhaka - who guided the inmates with their designs - was a proud teacher as she saw her students putting great effort in the show, and said, "I met Vimlaaji at the Bangalore airport, and she proposed the idea of doing a fashion show. We've been working on the designs since February. Everything has been done by the inmates. Even the khadi has been woven by them." Rina praised some of the male models and said that they could try for a career in TV or films.
The inmates were also happy and one of them, Harpreet Singh, said, "Kaafi achha lag raha hai modelling karke. We have been practising for the event for one-and-a-half months, and it was totally worth it."
