NEW DELHI: Congress slammed Narendra Modi for his silence over the killing of a Manipuri youth in the national capital, saying the Prime Minister should fulfil the promise made during the election campaign regarding the security of people from the Northeast.

The party demanded urgent implementation of the recommendations of Bezbaruah committee, which was set up to look into concerns of people from the Northeast living in different parts of the country after huge public outcry over killing of Arunachal Pradesh youth Nido Tania.

"When the murder of Nido Tania took place, the present Prime Minister personally visited Tania's family. BJP even tried to politicise the issue by holding rallies. We would like to remind him of the solemn promises made by him to the people of Northeast at that time," said Congress spokesman Randeep Surjewala.

He said, "We request the government and the PM to remember those promises and fulfil them."
