Gangster who killed cop gunned down in encounter

NEW DELHI: Firoze Fauzi, a gangster of northeast Delhi, wanted for the murder of police constable Shivraj Tomar, was gunned down on Tuesday morning in Sonia Vihar area. Fauzi had been evading cops since July 14 after shooting the constable in a narrow alley in Jafrabad. Fauzi has at least a dozen cases of robbery and murder against him.

Fauzi, a resident of Loni, was intercepted by special cell in the early hours and asked to surrender but he again tried to shoot a cop and flee. The incident happened around 6.30am.

The police fired in retaliation in which he was injured. He was taken to a hospital but died during treatment.

On the day that constable Tomar was killed, Fauzi and his aide Firoze Bilauri were going on bike when they were spotted by constable Tomar and flagged down. Both ran into the alley where a scuffle ensued and Fauzi shot him dead. His shirt was torn in the process. He later called Bilauri asking him to meet in Loni where they bought a t-shirt and fled to Meerut. Bilauri was caught a few days ago.
