Chinese President Xi Jinping in Delhi: Traffic might be hit for second day

NEW DELHI: A day after a massive traffic jam stalled the city for hours; traffic officials said that areas around the Sardar Patel marg would have heavy traffic on Friday for the movement of Chinese President Xi Jinping. Traffic officials said that both the carriageways of the S P Marg and Panchsheel Marg will remain closed till 12noon.

Police said that vehicles heading to Gurgaon will be diverted through Gyarah murti-Vande Mataram Marg- Ring Road route while vehicles heading to Lutyen's zone will be diverted through the Ridge Road-Shankar Road-Park street route.

Vehicles heading to Moti Bagh will be allowed to use San Martin Marg, a police officer said. He said that vehicles from Gurgaon and Dwarka heading to other parts of central Delhi apart from Lutyen's zone can use the Rao Tula Ram Marg — Moti Bagh Crossing and Shanti Path for their journey.

Cops said that the Abai Marg, Manas Marg and Battle Honours Mess Marg will be closed for traffic and only residents of these areas will be allowed to enter this zone.

Police officials said that for other movements of the VVIPs, adequate staff will be deployed on these routes to guide drivers during the peak hours.
