NEW DELHI: Delhi University's Hindu College has served a show-cause notice to a history teacher for talking to the media on "issues of over-admissions, inflated workload (and) illegitimate appointment of guest lecturers".

The show-cause, signed by principal Pradyumn Kumar and dated September 9, asks the teacher, Ratan Lal, to show why "disciplinary proceedings" shouldn't be started against him for "not obeying instructions of the established authorities like the teacher- in-charge/principal", for "insinuate(ing) that any action against you is being directed to harass you simply because you belong to the SC category", for "admittedly not taking classes since August 11," and for a batch of communications that "are very derogatory in nature".

"You," says the letter, "by your different acts since July 23, 2014 have committed a gross breach of indiscipline and have brought disgrace to the college by going public by means of newspaper conference that you called at your residence."

Lal had conducted a press conference and still maintains he's being "victimized."
