Decision on Delhi assembly after Diwali: Centre

Written By Unknown on Sabtu, 11 Oktober 2014 | 22.11

NEW DELHI: The Centre on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it would "soon" take a decision on the fate of Delhi assembly, which has been kept in suspended animation after the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party government resigned in February.

Solicitor general Ranjit Kumar sought an adjournment of the hearing before a five-judge constitution bench headed by CJI H L Dattu but informed that the President was seized of the report submitted by Delhi lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung and a decision was likely after Diwali, which falls on October 23.

The bench adjourned hearing on AAP's petition till October 28. AAP had accused BJP of poaching its MLAs in a bid to form government and had sought a direction from the court for dissolution of the assembly and early elections.
