BANGALORE: Dispelling apprehensions that prime minister Narendra Modi's Clean India Campaign would end up being a one-day affair among people, over 200 students set out with brooms and spades on Saturday to clean the city.

The HSR Cleanup Crew gathered at the BDA complex at 8am armed with brooms, spades, brushes and paints besides aprons, masks and gloves and spruced up the compound. They termed it "the HSR BDA Complex Spot Fix".

The crew comprised 218 students of various schools and colleges near HSR Layout. They had launched the campaign online and came together through Facebook.

They were inspired by the PM's 'Swacch Bharat' call and mentored by The Ugly Indian, an anonymous group of volunteers who spot-fix dirty spots.

"We managed to fix the entire front wall of the BDA complex. We cleaned both sides of the wall. We cleared the weeds, removed all posters from the walls, swept and cleared the front yard, and painted the entire 200-metre wall," coordinators of the group said.
