Uber cabbie’s certificate fake: Delhi Police chief Bassi

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Police on Monday denied that they had issued any "character certificate" to the Uber cab driver Shiv Kumar Yadav arrested on suspicion of raping a 27-year-old woman in south Delhi on Friday night.

Delhi Police commissioner BS Bassi issued a statement that the certificate is fake. He also said the officer whose signed the certificate is not even posted in the city.

Earlier on Monday, Delhi Police came under scanner for giving a clean character certificate to Yadav.

According to reports, the-then additional DCP of southeast Delhi had issued a character certificate to the rape suspect in August 2014.

It was revealed during initial investigations that Yadav had spent seven months in jail in a rape case which was filed against him in south Delhi's Mehrauli area in 2011.


The "character certificate" which was reported as given by a top Delhi cop to the rape suspect Shiv Kumar Yadav.
