Police said the woman was cooking inside her kitchen when she overheard an argument between two people close to her house. Her husband informed police that she went up on the terrace to know what the argument was all about. Downstairs, in a lane close to her house, two people were having a heated argument and shouting at each other.
The neighbours told police that during the course of the argument, one of the men took out a pistol and fired in the air. The woman, looking down from her terrace, received the shot on her head, said a police official. She was rushed to the hospital but was declared brought dead. Her neighbours made a PCR call around 7.45pm informing the police about the incident.
Meanwhile, the men fled the spot after they realized that the bullet had hit an elderly woman and she had succumbed to the injury.
Police have registered a case of murder under Section 302 of IPC at Khajoori Khas police station and started making enquiries about the accused in the neighbourhood and surrounding places. Police said they were not residents of that area.
