Record 9.25 lakh footfall in Surajkund

FARIDABAD: The 29th Surajkund International Crafts Mela has seen a record footfall of 9.25 lakh visitors with a number of young couples thronging the place on Valentine's Day. The footfall recorded till Friday was 9.25 lakh against 9 lakh visitors last year, officials said.

Sumita Misra, chief administrator, Surajkund Mela administration and managing director of Haryana Tourism Corporation, said increased participation of 20 countries and added attractions like helicopter ride evoked a great response.

More than 194 foreign artisans and artists are participating in the mela and more than 70% of the craftspersons this year are national and state awardees, she said. The 13 heritage craft stalls set up are attracting those enthusiastic about heritage.

Young couples were seen dancing to the beats of folk music at the chaupal.
