Women showcase might at police’s 68th Raising Day

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police celebrated the 68th Raising Day at police lines in north Delhi's GTB Nagar, on Monday. Women played a significant role in the parade keeping up this year's theme of 'Nari-Shakti'. The parade was attended by union home minister Rajnath Singh.

Addressing the personnel, Singh asked them to take dua" (blessings) from the poor and give dawa (succour) by dealing strictly with criminals. He also warned them against indulging in racial and/or religious discrimination. Singh further advised the police force to be kind to street vendors, rickshaw pullers and small traders.

"The Delhi Police should take the lead to realize the PM's dream of 'SMART Police' (S-Sensitive and Strict; M-Modern with Mobility; A-Alert and Accountable; R-Reliable and Responsive; T-Trained and Techno-savvy)," Singh said.

During the programme, police medals were awarded to joint commissioner western range, Tajender Singh Luthra, joint commissioner central range, Sandeep Goel, DCP Subhashis Choudhary, ACP Priya Mitra Kaushik and ACP Ashok Kumar Sharma.

Family members of two head constables, Ram Kishan and Yashpal Rathi, who were killed on duty, were presented with the President's Police Awards.

The home minister also presented the best police station award and a sum of Rs 20,000 to the SHO Nizamuddin, Ved Prakash, while the SHO Mangolpuri, Ashok Kumar, was given Rs 15,000 for coming second. Assistant sub-inspector, Nirmal Singh Verma, was awarded for being in service for the longest period of time. He has been in service for the last 41 years, eight months and 21 days.

The parade concluded with marching contingents of all women officers, the Delhi police band, bicycle squad, dog squad, vajra vehicles, bullet-proof vehicles and the SWAT (Special Weapons and Tactics).
