The kingpin of the gang has been identified as Abbas Khan and his accomplices are Kamal Upadhyay, Arun Kumar, Rakesh Solanki and Sandeep Dedha.
The first incident was reported by a woman in Malviya Nagar in on February 21. She said that while operating an ATM near Khirki extension she found the "cancel" and "enter" keys on the ATM stuck. During that time when she was struggling with the ATM, a man entered the kiosk and offered to help her saying that there was a defect in the machine.
Later he convinced the woman that the cancel command to her earlier transaction to withdraw Rs 10,000 was accepted. After a few hours, the woman received a message saying that Rs 10,000 was withdrawn from her account.
"A team led by DCP M A Rizvi was formed to track the men after a several complaints of ATM frauds were reported from various parts of the city and the gang was arrested from Sarai Kale Khan," said Ravindra Yadav, joint commissioner, crime.
In another incident, a businessman in Rana Pratap Bagh area of northwest Delhi reported that he had lost Rs 80,000 in a similar way where a man had offered to help him operate the ATM as it was not responding to the keys. Later, he discovered that the money was deducted from his account in bulk transactions.
A team was formed to look into the matter and three men were arrested from the locality. They were identified as Mukesh, Irfan Ali and Rajesh Kataria. A stolen Skoda car was also recovered from them.
