Capital staring at fresh spell of rain

NEW DELHI: Get ready for another spell of rain and thundershowers in the Capital from Sunday. The Met department has predicted a wet weekend, with a fall of about 2-3 degrees in temperatures. There is a possibility of hail storm in some areas as well.

The change in weather will be the result of a western disturbance, the fourth in this month which has already been marked by heavy rain and low temperatures.

"Usually, there are about five to six WDs that affect the western Himalayan region and adjoining plains of northwest India. The current WD is located over Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan. There is an induced upper air cyclonic circulation over south Pakistan and adjoining southwest Rajasthan. This will continue to interact with the easterly wave for another two days, impacting northwest and central India," said a Met official.

Due to this, light to moderate rain, accompanied with strong surface winds, will affect states like Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Vidharbha, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada. There is a high probability of isolated hail storms over these areas. "The maximum temperatures will fall by 2-4 degrees over the region over the next two days while the minimum temperatures will rise by 2-3 degrees in the same duration. The impact of the WD has been visible since March 13. The rain and thunderstorm activity will pick up from Saturday evening and continue till Monday, impacting the western Himalayan region, plains of northwest and central India and parts of Maharashtra.

In Delhi, the Met has predicted a generally cloudy sky with possibility of mist in the morning even in the beginning of the next week. On Saturday, the maximum temperature was 27.3 degrees Celsius, one degree below normal while the minimum was 15.8 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal. Jafarpur recorded the lowest maximum temperature at 23.7 degrees Celsius.
