In a recent operation, Delhi Police has nabbed a husband-wife duo from Anand Vihar ISBT with 900 cartridges hidden in their clothing. The cops have stumbled upon another method used by the gun suppliers, which is akin to the barter system. The Munger syndicate in Bihar has been trading guns for bullets with Madhya Pradesh modules, said S N Shrivastava, special commissioner of police.
"The peddlers from one syndicate carry guns with them and deliver the same to members from another syndicate, which carries the cartridges. This ensures a "package" deal as guns and bullets collectively reach the criminals in Delhi," Shrivastava added.
DCP Sanjeev Yadav said that a team led by inspector Govind Sharma received a tip-off that a syndicate comprising criminals from Bihar, western UP and MP was planning to "exchange" its consignment with another group.
"The team received information that a man and a woman belonging to a syndicate would arrive at Anand Vihar ISBT. The couple was nabbed. They were identified as Mohammed Rabbani and Chunni Begum. They were carrying two pistols and 900 ordnance factory-made 7.65mm cartridges—all these were concealed in their clothing," Yadav said.
During interrogation, it emerged that firearms manufactured in Munger are traded for cartridges by collectors from Madhya Pradesh. "The peddlers have roped in women who accompany their male counterparts in trains. The women split the cargo and dodge cops at boarding-de-boarding points," Yadav said.
