Id cards on rent
Akshita, a student at Satyawati College, says, "I had gone to Ramjas College's fest when Honey Singh had come there in 2012. The entry was free, but it was so crowded that students could not get in.
Akshita says, "Suddenly, a guy came up to me and said, 'Ma'am, girls ki entry toh aise bhi ho jaegi, aap Rs 100 mein apna ID card mujhe de do. Main aapko back gate par lauta doonga.' He said even a girl's ID card would work because the guard would not have the time to look at the picture properly. I did not give it to him simply because I did not want to risk losing my card, but that's when I found out that this happens every year. I have seen people rent their IDs for as high as Rs 500 too."
Bouncers sell fake passes to boys
Snigdha*, a third-year DRC student, says, "No one will ever say that it happened at their college, but every fest season, we hear about outsiders buying passes to DU college fests for as high as Rs 1,500, even if the entry is actually free. Two of my friends had come to attend our fest. The bouncer let the girl go for free but tried to get the guy to pay Rs 500 even though he had an ID card."
Rs 1,500 fake pass for a fest which has a free entry
Raghav, a Zakhir Hussain College student, says, "I know for a fact that entry to Hindu's fest is always free because I have friends there. But I recently found out that a friend of mine paid Rs 1,500 to some uncle he met in North Campus to get last-minute entry to Mecca. When he reached the college, he obviously couldn't enter because the college had sold no passes."
Sold in black at double the price
Sameer*, a second-year student at SRCC, says, "Officially, the passes for non-SRites were for Rs 500, but through unofficial channels, passes were sold for as high as Rs 1,000. It was only after the fest that we found out that people had bought tickets in black."
These are the guys who get too rowdy
Sabika Das, a student at Hansraj, says, "Even though most of the colleges let only those people enter who have a DU college ID card, you can easily spot at least one group of people who are clearly not from DU. They are visibly older and get rowdy. These are the people who buy or rent ID cards from DU students and end up causing chaos at fests."
We catch fake DU students every year
Arpita*, a member of Miranda House's students' union, says, "Every year, we catch at least one person with a fake ID card. We probably manage to catch them because students, along with college guards, screen those who enter but these people clearly keep trying to gain entry because it has worked for them at even more crowded fests. It's obviously dangerous to have some person who is lying about his/her identity enter a space full of students."
