Rains lash Delhi NCR, waterlogging reported

NEW DELHI: Rains lashed the national capital through the night leading to severe waterlogging in major parts of Delhi. With the CBSE exams scheduled on Monday traffic police has advised commuters to avoid some of the roads that are worst affected by traffic jams the ensued.

According to traffic police officials, major jams were reported from Josiph Broz Tito Marg (BRT)- Ambedkar Nagar crossing, Saket Press Enclave Road, Adchini crossing (Aurobindo Marg), Mahipalpur crossing, IIT-flyover, Dhaula Kuan, Moolchand underpass, South extension, Ashram crossing in south Delhi. Mathura Road is the worst affected stretch.

Vehicles also crawled on the Vikas Marg in east Delhi due to water logging near Laxmi Nagar, a traffic officer said. An advisory has also been issued to commuters travelling through Desh Bandhu Gupta road where traffic snarls have been reported from at least five points. Anand Parbat-Karol Bagh stretch too has slow moving traffic.

Snarls have been reported from Subzi Mandi to Civil Lines area due to water logging near the Model Town. The stretch between Mukarba Chowk and Burari is also jammed due to a construction work.

"We advice commuters to leave early for work and avail metro services to reach their destination on time," said a traffic officer.

Traffic jams have been reported at the Ring Road near Greater Kailash and Aurobindo Marg, near Safdurjung as trees have got uprooted by strong winds, blocking the main carriageway.

Additionally, jams have been reported at the newly constructed Sarita Vihar underpass due to water-logging.

Meanwhile, the Met department had rightly predicted that moderate rainfall will occur in the next 24 hours across the country, including several parts of North India.
