Abhishek, a journalist, had gone to see off his relative when he noticed the kids sitting alone in a corner of the station. He immediately clicked a picture and tweeted it.
"Can someone help these helpless kids at the New Delhi railway station near platform 16 entrance," the tweet read. He tagged Delhi Police and home minister Rajnath Singh which made the tweet go viral. He also called up the child helpline.
Meanwhile, DCP (north), Madhur Verma, happened to read the tweet and contacted the reporter for details. He immediately dispatched teams to the spot. DCP (railways), Sanjay Bhatia, also sent his teams and had flashed messages on wireless sets to ensure that the children were rescued.
The siblings were identified as Raumana (7), Raja (5), Sanya (4) and were too scared and hungry to say anything. A policewoman assured them and the police even bought them chocolates to try and find out where they were from.
After an hour-long quizzing, it was found out that the children lived in Nabi Karim area and their father had left them at the station asking them to wait for their mother. Their house was then located with the help of local police.
