The suspect, an Indian national, Raminder Singh (28) was wanted by police authorities of Scotland in two cases of sexual assault and attempt to murder, joint commissioner (crime) Ravindra Yadav told TOI.
Singh was arrested on a tip-off by a team led by addl CP Ashok Chand and ACP KPS Malhotra. Intelligence agencies had sought support from Delhi Police.
Singh went to UK for studies and later did odd jobs. One of his victims lived in the same hostel while he had met the other at a pub. He had taken second victim to an isolated park and had broken her jaws when she resisted.
The accused had escaped from UK immediately after committing crimes and had been staying in Chandigarh and Punjab after assuming fake identity.
The UK government had got a red corner notice against him through interpol.
Crime branch will inform MHA about the arrest and ask home ministry to inform British high commission through ministry of external affairs. Crime branch will also inform CBI (India's designated Interpol authority).
