NEW DELHI: The country's largest power generation plant, the NTPC-run 3,760 MW Vindhyachal project in Madhya Pradesh, will complete 25 years of operations tomorrow.

The overall capacity of the super thermal power plant -- which started operations on November 1, 1987, with Russian collaboration -- would be enhanced to 4,760 MW by 2013.

Electricity generated from the plant is supplied to Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Daman and Diu, among others.

"This largest power station of the country was a dedicated symbol of collaboration between India and the erstwhile Soviet Union," NTPC said in a statement.

Currently, the Vindhyachal station has 11 units. They are six units of 210 MW in Stage I, two units of 500 MW in Stage II, two units of 500 MW in Stage III and one unit of 500 MW in Stage IV.

State-run NTPC, which is also country's largest power producer, has an installed generation capacity of 39,174 MW.
