NEW DELHI: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (Ignou) and Pakistan's Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) have decided to constitute a task force of faculty members from both the universities in order to map out a comprehensive scheme of collaboration between them, so that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) could be signed at the earliest.
Dr Nazir A Sangi, vice chancellor, AIOU, Islamabad, visited Ignou campus and held negotiations with professor Gopinath Pradhan, vice chancellor of Ignou, senior professors and administrative officers regarding collaboration between the two leading open universities of South-East Asia.
Both the vice chancellors discussed about using ICT applications in the open learning system, catering to the needs of the students in the rural areas and imparting values and ethics through the education system.
Initially, it was agreed that faculty and student exchange programmes should be started between the two universities and the modalities for that will be worked out. It was also felt that cooperation and friendly exchanges in the education sector will go a long way in strengthening the relations between the two countries.
Nazir also visited the Electronic Media Production Centre, Ignou, and appreciated the efforts being made by Ignou to democratise higher education and lauded its achievements.
